Dry Box for Victron Smart Shunt 1000A Battery Shunt

We only accept returns within 30 days after receipt if the buyer pays shipping both ways, and the parts are returned undamaged.This box is for keeping the Victron Smart Shunt 1000A dry, given the statement in the Victron Installation Manual: “The SmartShunt is rated IP21, it is not waterproof and has to be mounted in a dry location.” Unfortunately, not all applications have a completely sealed battery compartment – most are exposed to at least some kind of moisture opportunities. The box is intended to mitigate water getting to the shunt, however due to the necessity of battery cable holes and mounting holes, this unit is not 100% waterproof unless the user seals the holes after installation. The box is 3D printed with 100% infill, making it solid plastic. The load bearing surfaces are 6mm thick and made from PETG material. PETG is very durable and strong. The box lid is made from PLA+, which is much stronger than regular PLA, and is very close in strength to ABS. The box is designed to be mounted upside down, as shown. The lid snaps shut and has drainage holes in it, should any water get into the box via the exit holes for the battery cables. There’s a hole in each corner, so as the vehicle corners, any water inside should exit through these holes. It could be mounted right side up, if needed. I’d recommend taping over the drainage holes in the lid if you do this. Victron ships the shunt with the battery terminal bolt heads on the same side as the bluetooth/electronic module. Notice the box is designed to accept the shunt after the battery terminal bolts are flipped around. You can see this in the pictures, where the nuts are on the same side as the electronic module. So far, the box has 1200 miles on it in a 40′ Motor Coach and has been working fine. The lid stays shut and the unit is kept dry. The battery cable holes could be further sealed with a suitable adhesive tape, such as flex seal tape or even Gorilla Tape, if your application is exceptionally exposed to water.
